Some people have found that when all other medications have failed, that Chantix was the one medication that effectively helped them to finally quit. Chantix works like a nicotine blocker, for the brain. Chantix attaches itself to the nicotine receptors within the brain, which blocks that absorption of nicotine. Over time, it lessens the desire to smoke, because there is less feel good receptors available for the nicotine to attach to, making you want a cigarette less and less.
Just listen to anybody who smokes and quite regularly you’ll hear things like “I’m going to try and quit smoking, just as soon as I (fill in the blank)”. Perhaps you’ve heard them say these things a number of times and now you just don’t listen. Know what I mean?
I know what you’re thinking. You are thinking that you can’t possibly have read that right – but it’s true. If you are looking to become a non-smoker, then quitting is one of the last steps you should take. Please allow me to explain.
Writing about this topic, for me at least, is a double edged sword, so please allow me to clearly state my personal opinion on this very controversial matter before I go on:
Weird title, eh! But it caught your attention and that’s what’s important.

All too often I hear statements like, “Once I have gotten rid of my stress, I am going to quit smoking” or “It’s going to be my New Year’s resolution” or “I could quit right away, if it weren’t for (fill in the blank)”. You know what I’m getting at.
If your roof needs repair, you gather all of the tools you need before you climb up the ladder. Why would you want to end up on your roof, ready to get started, and find that you did not bring all of the necessary tools along, and would have to start from the beginning again.
You would think the answer to that would be fairly obvious – you just quit! But I am afraid that would be the answer you’ve already heard from countless others who have either never smoked in the first place or have never successfully quit themselves.
It is not easy to break any old habit, least of all smoking, which is more than just a habit. However, if you have reached a point when you really want to quit smoking, you can do that more easily in a group rather than do it alone. But, first things first! You must be honest with yourself whether you truly want to quit smoking or is it just a passing fancy that impels you to give it up for any temporary reason. If you really want to give up smoking, then you must feel accountable to yourself and others. That is why you need a support group around you that can be of at least two or three other people, though five is ideal.
